Pothole Mapping & Government Advocacy | Mentoring a Solve Ninja
I am currently helping Solve Ninja Lasya, who is leading an initiative to escalate pothole issues faced during her daily school commute. As a mentor, I am guiding her in survey design, data collection, and spatial analysis to document potholes effectively. This initiative involves mapping pothole locations using Google Maps, integrating spatial and temporal data to track their dimensions, depth, and long-term road conditions. By leveraging data-backed insights, Lasya aims to advocate for government intervention and timely road repairs. I am helping her refine the methodology and use data-driven storytelling to strengthen her case for urban infrastructure improvements.

Climate Action Narratives | Tree Census Data & Carbon Modeling
Currently, I am working with Ritika (Reap Benefit) to transform tree census data into powerful climate action narratives. By leveraging my carbon sequestration model, which analyzes data from over 400,000 trees, we are crafting data-driven stories that highlight the impact of urban greenery. This project bridges science and storytelling, making climate action more engaging and actionable for local communities. By demonstrating the tangible benefits of tree planting and preservation, we aim to influence policy, urban planning, and public awareness on the importance of sustainable city landscapes.

Smartphone-Based Tree Measurement Tool | Image Processing
As part of my ongoing research, I developed an image processing tool that can measure tree dimensions with ±1 cm precision using a smartphone camera. This tool plays a critical role in my larger project, where I aim to estimate the carbon sequestration potential of individual trees. By integrating image analysis, the tool allows users to extract DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) and height measurements from tree images. The goal is to provide an accessible and scalable solution for individuals and organizations to assess the carbon capture capacity of trees in their localities.

Tree Project | Summer Internship with DAAD Scholarship | TU Berlin
This summer, I'm thrilled to be a DAAD-supported research intern at TU Berlin, working on my "Tree Project." This project dives deep into the human connection with trees, exploring both the challenges and benefits they bring. To begin, I delved into understanding public perception. Through a LinkedIn post [https://shorturl.at/IRDRV], I gathered valuable insights on why people value trees and the importance of planting them. Next, I shifted gears to harness the power of data. Using QGIS and Berlin's comprehensive Tree Data, I built a system (https://shorturl.at/S9WC6) that estimates oxygen production by trees in any given location, leveraging allometric equations.

While discussing on the journey, I responded to several questions, like what's the motivation behind what I'm doing, what's the insights and how people responded before and after the solution, etc. I also got to hear the problem solving journey of other ninjas from that group, which anchored my belief and gave me spark to go more in my journey.
